The NFL’s new league year is here!
Now that it’s past 4 p.m. ET, teams can officially sign new players to contracts, though much of the negotiation has already taken place over the weekend and during the NFL’s so-called “negotiation period” (aka “legal tampering window”) the past two days.
Most of Frank Schwab’s top 25 available free agents, and even more throughout his positional rankings, are already off the board.
The biggest name still out there is Aaron Rodgers, who is officially being released by the New York Jets. He’ll be designated as a post-June 1 cut, per ESPN, which saves the Jets $7 million but still leaves them with a $49 million overall dead money charge, including a $35 million dead cap hit in 2026.
Where will he end up? It’s increasingly looking like Steelers or bust when it comes to starting for a playoff contender in 2025. The Giants are still reportedly waiting on his decision, too. Either way, Rodgers is the next major domino to fall in free agency.
There are still plenty of talented players to be signed too, despite the spate of agreements already reached. Here are the best remaining NFL free agents available. Rodgers is No. 2, behind tackle Mekhi Becton.
If you missed any news these past few days, don’t worry. We’ve tracked every NFL free agent deal this spring right here.
And don’t forget: The NFL Draft also isn’t far off. Cam Ward is going first in our latest mock draft. The league also announced the compensatory picks for the upcoming draft.

Rams set to release Cooper Kupp after failing to secure a trade
The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly informed Cooper Kupp that he’ll be released today, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The move came after the team started looking for a trade partner for Kupp, but a deal never materialized. So the Rams instead opted to simply move on.
Kupp, 31, has spent his entire eight-year career with the Rams. Although his production has declined in recent years, he is expected to have interest from multiple teams.
Yahoo’s 2025 NFL free agency All-Value team headlined by CB D.J. Reed, WR Joshua Palmer
Which NFL free agent signings didn’t break the bank for NFL teams, yet should provide an immediate impact for their new clubs?
Cornerback D.J. Reed going to the Lions and receiver Joshua Palmer signing with the Bills tops Charles McDonald’s All-Value team for the 2025 NFL free agency cycle.
“Compared to what other cornerbacks got on the first day of free agency, getting D.J. Reed for $16 million per year is a nice pickup for the Lions. General Manager Brad Holmes has shown a deliberate desire to upgrade the Lions cornerback room and Reed is the latest pickup.”
“Palmer has experience playing every position that would be asked of him in Buffalo’s offense, but he was primarily used on the outside of the Chargers offense, where he was essentially a flatly average yet competent wide receiver. Buffalo’s passing game is structured better than where the Chargers were last season, so Palmer could see higher-quality opportunities come his way.”
